CJ3B did not have a flat head engine. The reason the hood is higher is to make room for the new F-Head engine which had the intake valves in the head and the exhaust valves in the block. It is my favorite too. I am on my second one. The first was a 1959 which I had to sell to buy a house. The second is a 1953 which is in the process of having a 4.3 Chevy V6 with a SM420 installed. Not trying to be a know it all, just thought that one point needed to be corrected.
