We headed to Moab during Thanksgiving of 2007 and had a great time during the off season of the Jeep Town!

The first trail run of 2008 was a great success. There were 24 rigs in the group. Everything from a T100 and a couple of Samurai’s to some nicely built Jeeps. It was great to get out, after (or during) the long cold winter.

Black Rock Canyon was seen from both sides, but there was too much snow to see the top. We sent some of the big dogs out front, all locked up with new 37 inch Toyo’s. Dave (Doc), Lane, Todd, Devin, Kirk and the boys gave it a serious effort, but 3 feet of snow was a bit much. The rest of us hung out while they did battle for 30 minutes or so. After accepting defeat, we commenced the arduous task of turning everyone around to go back down and find a way around the mountain.

Using state of the art GPS and TOPO map technology we wandered aimlessly for the next 4 hours. We tried this canyon then that. Each attempt was thwarted by that last snow storm. We finally wound up driving on foot hills from the Cedar Fort side of the mountain to the Utah Lake side, with Little Moab as our ultimate Goal. Yes we got stuck, broke some straps, chained up, shoveled out, but had a great time doing it. That’s what a “snow run” is all about. Little Moab was still covered in snow so not much action happened there. We hit the muddy trail then the highway and headed home. THANK YOU for a great start to the 2008 wheelin’ season. The terrain was slightly rocky and began a slow climb through the mountain, which is where the four wheel drive becomes necessary. You’ll want to watch the heat of your engine because the climb caused a few rigs to overheat. The scenery was lovely with plenty of trees and a canyon feeling. Once at the top of the trail, where the trail forks, we headed left, parked our vehicles, and hiked into an old Silver Mine. It was incredibly dark with cool air so taking a flashlight and maybe a sweater is highly recommended.

Following that we had lunch and then half of us headed back down the Mona way to get back to the trucks and trailers, while the other half went out the Payson way. The scenery was a high light of the whole trip and by taking the Payson way out we were able to ride along the top of the hill for a while before heading down past Payson Lakes and into Payson.

The Mona Pole Trail would be rated about a 2+ and can be driven in about 4 hours. We all had a lot of fun with the family and friends of TeraFlex PLUS and we highly recommend this trail.

The trail clean up crew followed close behind us to clean up the trail. We like to recommend to all jeepers the pack in pack out theory so that we can continue to have use of these trails. Do your part to help keep our trails open.
