Trail Run - Providence Canyon
On July 19, 2008 we headed up to Providence to run the Providence Canyon Trail… we had a wonderful turn out - thank you to those who made it!
“With another trail run under our belts, we are looking forward to the Manti Sheep trail run on Aug 9. Sorry for the delay on the Logan- Providence Canyon run report. It turned out to be a well-attended event. With the “Logan Boys” leading the way, we hit the trail about 9:30 and never looked back. I guess we should have though. It turns out the trail was a little much for our man Bryson’s bone stock 4 Runner. He was bringing up the rear, with Dan, (in his full on tube buggy) in the lead. Talk about both ends of the spectrum, we like a trail with something for everyone. Long story short, the once proud 4runner was defeated on a rocky incline, and was unable to continue. Undaunted we forged onward,
Providence Canyon is one of the prettiest trails you’ll ever have the privilege of running. It is only rated a 2.5 or a 3 on the old scale, but there are some fun play areas along the way, The rock quarry at the bottom, or head of the trail, is a definite fun zone. The trail winds through the trees, over some basketball-sized boulders, and on to a large meadow. Even on a hot July day, it was nice and cool. A lot of trails intersect at the top. It is possible to go to Bear Lake or head south to Hyrum, just to name two options of the many available. If you were not one of the 25 rigs that made the run, DO NOT make the same mistake next year. We had the Toyota team from Logan give us a show in the mud bog during our lunch break. The first man through hit it a little hard and flooded the ignition system. He was pulled out by a fellow Yota owner who seemed genuinely concerned for his well being. He was offered everything from lunch to a phone call to mom. After the proper harassment period he was pulled out and the fun continued. 3 or 4 other brave soles crossed the 35-inch tire swallowing bog with varying success. Randy Zundell put on a show, when he took his supercharged TJ through with no top, doors, or regard for interior. It was awesome. Rooster tails shooting off all four tires, the scream of the blower and yours truly, (counseling him to reconsider). What a mess. We continued on to the radio tower on the top of the mountain. Amazing view. You can see hundreds of miles in all directions. We sat on the top on the hill for quite a while, just drinking in the view.
On the trip down, we followed the same trail. Some of us had trailers waiting. We stopped at a waterfall in the quarry and hiked the short walk to its base, Unbelievable place. It looks like something you would find in a Hawaiian jungle. The cool water was a welcome relief to the heat of the day.
That pretty much wrapped up the event. Many thanks to Dan ——- and the Toyota Team from Logan. They really made the trail run for us.”

July 19, 2008. Team TeraFlex PLUS is heading up to Providence Canyon - just outside of Logan, Utah. This trail is rated a 2.5 on a scale of 0-5, so make it a family event!
“This Saturday, July 19 meet at the NEW Macey’s (50 N Hwy 165… Providence address?) in Logan at 8:45am. If anyone wants to caravan up from Murray, we will be leaving from TeraFlex PLUS at 7:00am.
This trail is rated approximately a 3 on the 1-5 scale, so the only real requirement vehicle-wise is 4-wheel drive. But be sure to plan on some good scenery!
Bring a lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, bug spray, and good shoes to hike around in (there is a cool waterfall to check out.)
We’ll have lunch on top, and maybe stop by Iggy’s for dinner on our way out of town - so feel free to join us!”
